Well… I am finally getting around to writing about my home studio and posting a picture. It is pretty cool…

I have a Soundcraft Sapphyre analog console with 36 mic pres and 88 inputs at mix. It has a patchbay and a JLCooper automation system. I have a rack of outboard compressers and effects… I have Lexicon and TC Electronics Reverbs and signal processing. I mix on Mackie 824’s and M-Audio BX-5’s… I have an Alesis surround system for mixing in surround. My mic cabinet contains Neuman, AKG, Shure, Studio Projects Dual Triode Tube mics and Audix drum mics. I have a Strat, a G&L L-2500 Tribute 5 string bass and a Bass Collection Fretless loaded with EMG’s.

I use Sonar for recording (Pro-Tools LE when I have to) and production of music. I use a MOTU 2408 MK3 audio interface… primarily because it has 3 light pipe ins and outs. I can connect my Alesis HD824 multitract recorder and use it in sync with my computer rig if necessary.

I have Omnisphere, Atmosphere, Stylus RMX, Reason, Native instruments Komplete, EastWest Symphonic Orchestra, Ministry of Rock, Voices of Passion, Stormdrum 2 and Fab4. I own Rob Papen Synths as well…

I use Acid, Project5 and various other applications for creating music. I use Soundforge to master.

I create motion graphics with After Effects and edit with Sony Vegas. I have all kinds of graphic apps and 3D software. I love tinkering with audio/visual things…

I have a Triton Extreme and a Yamaha Motif rack. An absolute phenominal combination for creating music.

I mix to an Alesis Masterlink most of the time through my console just to make things a little warmer at mix down.

I have a little Hawaiian girl up on my console… and various Spongebob characters…

This is my creative space… I love being in this room.

Well… that was the tour… any questions?

Starting Over….

Some really cool stuff today…

  • First session was a general overview of Cloud Computing and Flex/Air applications. Some great technology. Very cost and resource efficient way to host applications. The talks addressed Amazon Web Services and Google App Engine. But also gave information about some other services available as well.
  • Second session was audio generation with Flex using a soon to be released API/Lib from a company called Audiospike. This discussion was cool in that it dealt with DSP, FFT and interesting ways to process audio from Flex(AS3).
  • Session 3 and 4 were hands on sessions dealing with an MVC framework called PureMVC. Some great information about how to architect and design apps using MVC and Flex as well as some great implementation ideas.
  • Session 5 was the Business of selling apps developed with Flex/Air. This was a pretty cool talk about business practices in general for selling software. The presenter went over some of the business models and the pros and cons of each business model. Talked primarily about licensing and how to prevent piracy… Just a nice topic for me to end the day with.

All in all another good day at the conference. I won a raffle that got me a free book… So I had a bit of good luck.

Last sessions tomorrow then I am heading home… I miss my family… very much…

360|Flex

I finished the first day of the 360Flex conference in Indianapolis today. Here are my observations from today’s sessions…

Keynote:

Matt Chotin – Adobe Flex Product Manager

His presentation included Catalyst and Flex4 demos. I am excited about these new features.

I attended 4 sessions today.

  • The Great Mashup – Doug Knudsen
  • A moderate level discussion on various API’s and Services available for use in Flex/AIR applications.
  • Degrafa – Juan Sanchez .  Degrafa is a really neat framework that allows for some cool graphics and skins in your Flex/AIR applications. Check it out here http://degrafa.org/
  • Bryce Barrand gave a presentation on large scale Flex project management. He talked about some of the processes his company uses when working on large scale projects. Some great insights with regard to client management and developer accountability.
  • Last session for the day was Dynamic Audio Synthesis using the Flash Player. This was a very cool session in which generated audio was demonstrated. This included transformations like delays, filtering, pitch and sequencing. Flash Player has come a long way since the first time I worked with it.

All in all it was a great day. More sessions tomorrow.
